Shenandoah Valley wine country. Nine wineries on the same road as the house, forty private acres behind the gate, and Sacramento about an hour back.

Amador is the quieter half of California wine country — zinfandel country, family operations, tasting rooms where somebody actually pours for you rather than scanning a ticket.

Plymouth is the hub. The wineries start about five minutes out and the whole valley is drivable in an afternoon.
